SHE-HULK IS COMING UP – Share Anime Feast

Deadline reports that Tatiana Maslany has been cast to play attorney Jennifer Walters aka The She-Hulk. She is best known for her Emmy award-winning lead role in the Canadian Sci-Fi series Orphan Black where she plays multiple characters.

She-Hulk production Update

Mark Ruffalo, tweeted a welcome to the actress, who will play Bruce Banner’s cousin. Ruffalo will be appearing in the show, many likely in a much more substantial role than a cameo. In the comics, A blood transfusion from Banner to his dying cousin, Jennifer Walters, is the reason why she turns into She-Hulk.

There have been several delays to the production schedule due to the pandemic, but it looks like marvel Studios is getting back on track. TheDirect reports that production for the She-Hulk series on Disney+ will begin February 2021.

Looking back, looking forward

She-Hulk was actually the last major character that Stan Lee created. In her first series, savage She-Hulk from 1980, she was conceived as a much more major character. but in the years ahead, through various appearances, particularly in the hands of John Byrne with fantastic Four, and her second solo series 1989’s Sensational She-Hulk, she found her niche. She-Hulk became a character with a comedic touch who broke the fourth-wall, similar to Deadpool. It will be interesting to see if they go this route with the Disney+ show. For the long view, because marvel owns Deadpool now, imagine the interaction of the two of them doing some fourth-wall-breaking together!

Beyond her upcoming show, GeekosityMag has scooped that Jennifer Walters will play Peter Parker’s lawyer in the next Spider-Man film. marvel is also planning another Disney+ show that will feature an all-female superhero team lead by She-Hulk, called A-Force. Ms. marvel is another series that will build into that. Also, Dazzler is being considered for A-Force, as part of Marvel’s technique to sprinkle in mutants throughout the MCU before doing X-Men.

Savage She-Hulk 1

This book features the first appearance and origin of Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk. 9.8’s recently have been selling for over $600. 9.6’s are creeping up to $300. 9.4’s are close behind with recent sales in the $250 range. even with the abundance of high-grade copies in the CGC census, this issue might still be worth picking up because marvel appears to have long term plans for the character.

This issue retells the origin of She-Hulk and features the first team up with the Hulk. It has only recently been acquiring attention as a essential book, as indicated by the CGC census being on the lighter side. At this point, both the 9.8 and the 9.6 will be over $100, but high-grade raw copies can be had for under $40.

Sensational She-Hulk 1

Here is where She-Hulk really comes into her own with writing and art by John Byrne. This book is very reasonably priced with 9.8’s around $100 and 9.6’s around $60. It is possible these prices are undervalued given this is the quintessential series for the character.

A-Force 1

Here is another sleeper. 9.8’s are easily under $100. In the future as we near an A-Force series on Disney+, how different will these prices look?

There are numerous other books, some of which are even much more expensive than some on this list. For example, Hulk 441 which parodies Pulp Fiction, or Sensational She-Hulk 40 which features She-Hulk jump roping naked. I believe the ones on this list are the most classic for the character, but we will see how the market reacts as She-Hulk gains popularity in the coming years.
